These messages are everywhere. Scrawled on sidewalks, painted on walls...

A project started over twenty five years ago, I wasn’t looking for it. It found me.

It all began in the mid-1990s when I photographed a few random pieces of graffiti. I didn’t realize it for a few years, but I had started to collect images of people’s public statements of faith. Or, were they making these messages to help them find it? By sharing it with the public, were they trying to guide others, or were they trying to find their own way? Some are illegally painted, others are more formally created and legally displayed. Some are right in your face, while others make up such a tiny part of their environment. I now have hundreds of these messages captured on film. Here are a few.
